Dinotica Breeding Planner
Give the RNG grind an off switch. Merge, breed, fruit, then return to the rift.
Breeding is the system Steam players both require and resent. This planner is not a genetics calculator. Hidden inheritance tables are unpublished. It is a stop-condition checklist so you do not spend Launch Weeks rerolling colours while Chapter 5 waits. Use it with How to Breed, not instead of it.
Checklist — copy into a note if you want
- I already have a rider whose basic shot I can steer. If not, stop and open How to Tame and Hatch.
- I am only starring the species I actually ride or the hunter I actually send.
- Both parents have a trait I would keep on a child. If not, hunt or farm with the extras.
- Cribs are not full of a third hobby species.
- I know which fruit I need next: Stat Fruit, Talent Clear Fruit, or Talent Extract Fruit.
- I will run the difficulty that actually drops that fruit (Casual finals were tuned to guarantee Stat or Clear; Challenge can add Extract).
- I will stop when the rider clears the current biome boss without a panic restart.
- Colours wait until after step 7.
If you cannot tick 1 and 7, you are collecting, not breeding.
Fruit as a planned resource
Treat fruit like a building material. Patch 1.10.1 made Casual finals dependable for Stat or Talent Clear Fruit and raised drop rates on bosses in stages 7–9. Challenge finals can drop Extract as well. Plan a fruit run the way you plan a leather hunt — see Farm and Base and Dungeons and Bosses.
Do not open the nest the moment a fruit drops. Park it until a parent actually needs the edit. Inventory panic is how Talent Clear Fruit gets spent on a worker you will fire tomorrow.
Crib overflow protocol
When every slot is screaming:
- Merge same-species junk into the rider you already like.
- Assign leftovers to hunts.
- Stop picking egg doors for one chapter. Take totem doors instead.
- If you are in co-op, remember hatcheries do not merge — Co-op.
1.0-specific notes
Nine new species do not require a restarted bloodline. Hatch one, test it, then decide if it replaces a ticked rider. Dark Forest bosses that share names with new dinos are still bosses first. Endless Mode 200 is a terrible breeding environment; the rooms exist to spend a finished rider, not to start a generation.
Particle-heavy children plus greedy totems crash clients. If a new hatchling paints the arena, keep them as a worker until System Requirements says your machine can cope.
After the ticks are green
Go play. The Team Builder should now show rider + AI + worker. The Combat Tier List is a reference, not a reason to break step 7. If the grind still feels like “the worst kind of RNG,” that quote is already in the Review. The planner cannot make breeding short. It can make it finite.
Write the current rider’s species name at the top of your note. If you cannot name it, you are not ready to breed. Add the last fruit you spent and the last boss that dropped it. That three-line log beats a spreadsheet of imaginary percentages. When 1.0’s nine newcomers tempt you into a second bloodline, finish the first rider’s step 7 before you open a parallel crib. Parallel generations are how Launch Weeks disappear.
If a friend wants to “help breed” in online co-op, they can share a boss kill for fruit. They cannot share the nest. Take the fruit home and run this checklist on your own hatchery after the session ends.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers drawn from the current 1.0 build.
Can you publish exact inheritance percentages?
No. Official English math is not public. Use the stop conditions instead.
Which difficulty is best for fruit?
Casual finals were tuned to guarantee Stat or Talent Clear Fruit. Challenge can add Talent Extract Fruit.
Should I breed during Endless Mode?
No. Finish a rider first. Endless consumes food; it is a poor nursery.
When do colours matter?
After the rider can clear the current boss. Colours are not a chapter gate.
